How to Make Flannel Diapers
Several fabrics make excellent cloth diapers, such as cotton, wool, fleece and even flannel. Parents who use cloth diapers on their babies are finding that flannel cloth diapers aren't too difficult to make with just a little sewing know-how. Flannel diapers will last as long as your baby needs them and are an affordable and environmentally-savvy option.
Things You'll Need

- Inner lining pattern
- Straight pins
- 1/2 yard flannel
- 1/4 yard terrycloth
- Sewing machine
- Scissors
Instructions

Cutting
-
1
Fold the flannel over so there are two layers of the soft material.
-
2
Pin the cloth diaper pattern onto the flannel. Allow the pins to penetrate both layers of material to keep the two layers from slipping.
-
-
3
Use sharp scissors to cut the flannel according to the pattern. The flannel pieces will be shaped like a "T." Unpin the paper cloth diaper pattern when finished and separate the flannel pieces.
-
4
Double the terrycloth material and pin the inner lining pattern to both layers.
-
5
Cut the terrycloth material according to the pattern, using sharp scissors. Unpin the material from the pattern, but keep the terrycloth pieces together.
Sewing
-
6
Place the two terrycloth lining pieces in the center of one of the flannel pieces. The lining should be on the "wrong" side of the flannel. Pin the terrycloth in place with straight pins.
-
7
Sew the terrycloth lining to the flannel using a straight stitch on your sewing machine. Sew carefully along all four sides of the lining, as close to the lining edge as possible.
-
8
Place the stitched piece of flannel, with the terrycloth lining, on top of the other piece of flannel. The right sides of the flannel pieces should be facing each other. Line up the flannel pieces exactly and pin them together.
-
9
Use a zigzag stitch to sew along the outside of the flannel pieces. You can use a serger for this step as well, if you have one. Leave a 4-inch opening along the top of the flannel pieces.
-
10
Turn the flannel diaper right side out, using the hole you left along one edge. Fold the open edges of the hole to the inside and sew it shut, using a straight stitch on your sewing machine. Sew around the entire diaper again, using the straight stitch, about 1/2 inch from the edge.
