How to Fix Error 1316 in Adobe Reader 9.3
You may see Error 1316 -- specifically, "Error 1316. A Network error occurred while attempting to read from the file: <filename>" -- when you attempt to install Adobe Reader. Error 1316 indicates that there's another installation, or partial installation, of Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Reader. To fix Error 1316, uninstall Adobe Acrobat and any previous versions of Adobe Reader, then run the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility to clean the file system of any traces of previous installations. Download the free Windows Installer CleanUp Utility from Softpedia or another shareware download site, run the ".exe" file, then install Adobe Reader.

Click "Start" and "Control Panel."

Click the "Programs" link, then click "Programs and Features." A list of installed programs opens.

Click on the "Adobe Reader" entry, if present, then click the "Uninstall/Change" button from the top navigation bar. Click "OK" to confirm the removal. Adobe Reader is uninstalled. Repeat these steps for all other version of Reader, if found.

Click on "Adobe Acrobat," then click "Uninstall/Change." Click "OK" to confirm. Acrobat is uninstalled.

Double-click on the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility executable, or ".exe" file. The utility starts and cleans any remaining installation files.

Install Adobe Reader 9.3. The program should install without error messages.
