Make a hook for your child's pirate costume.

Many pirate costumes feature a hook in place of one hand. If your child is dressing as a pirate this Halloween, a real metal hook is obviously out of the question. However, you can create a safe hook out of aluminum foil that won't be able to hurt anyone. Best of all, you can make this hook out of items that you probably already have around your home.

Things You'll Need

  • Aluminum foil
  • Plastic drinking cup
  • Scissors

Instructions

    • 1

Tear off a 2-foot piece of aluminum foil.

    • 2

Twist and crumble the foil into a hook shape that measures approximately 1/2-inch in diameter and 8 inches from end to end.

    • 3

Cut a hole in the end of a large plastic cup with a pair of scissors. The hole should be large enough to poke the end of the hook through.

    • 4

Poke the the bottom inch of the hook through the hole, then bend it over and secure it in place inside the cup using a piece of tape.

    • 5

Cover the outside of the cup with black tape.

    • 6

To wear the hook, your child would put the cup over his hand and spread his fingers to hold the cup in place.
