How to Make Plastic Canvas Key Chains
Plastic canvas is a plastic sheet with square holes. It comes in a wide selection of colors to match the yarn for your key chain project. Yarn is used to stitch designs into the plastic canvas. Common plastic canvas projects are tissue box covers, checkbook covers and key chains. Plastic canvas key chains make a simple and fast craft project. They make inexpensive gift ideas or party favors.

1
Cut out a section of plastic canvas that is 20 holes by 20 holes, with a connecting strip in the middle that is four holes wide and 20 holes long. This will be all one piece when cut, the center piece so you can fold the sides together over a key ring for attachment.

2
Thread a strand of yarn through a plastic canvas needle. Stitch a design on one of the squares, covering the entire square. You can use any type of stitching you like or follow a desired pattern. Weave the end of your yarn back through the last few stitches on the back of the square to secure it.

3
Stitch a different or identical design on the second square. Secure the yarn at the end by weaving it back through the last few stitches on the back.
-
4
Slide a key ring over one square and bring it to the middle of the strip between your squares. Fold the plastic canvas in half so both of your squares meet evenly.
-
5
Cut a piece of yarn and thread the needle. Stitch an overcast stitch around the edges, sewing them together starting at the top of the squares. This is done by stitching over the edge from the back and then over the top and back through again. Work your way around the square. Secure the yarn under the last few stitches on the inside of your key chain to hide the end.
