How to Trim Duplicates in iPhoto

How to Trim Duplicates in iPhoto thumbnail
You can create duplicates in iPhoto instead of editing the original images in your library.

When you import pictures into iPhoto from a digital camera or the Web, the application stores a single copy of the image on your local hard drive. To be safe, always duplicate any photo before adding visual effects or modifying its size. Once you've successfully made a duplicate copy of a picture, you can use iPhoto's edit tools to trim and crop it. If you're not happy with the changes, you can always delete the duplicate and start over with the original.

Instructions

    • 1

Launch the iPhoto application on your Mac computer.

    • 2

Click the "Events" or "Photos" tab underneath the "Library" heading on the left side of the window.

    • 3

Click on the picture you want to duplicate and trim to highlight it.

    • 4

Click "Photos" in the top menu bar and click the "Duplicate" option. A replica of the picture appears next to the original.

    • 5

Click the duplicate version of the picture and press the "Edit" button in the bottom toolbar.

    • 6

Click on the "Crop" icon in the bottom toolbar.

    • 7

    • 8

Press the "Crop" button or the "Apply" button to trim the duplicate image to the desired proportions.
