How to Force Apple TV on DFU Mode
The Device Firmware Update mode on Apple hardware is used for installing firmware upgrades and resetting the device. Many different Apple devices have a DFU mode, including the Apple TV. You can also use DFU mode to jailbreak your Apple TV and install different firmware versions. Access DFU mode through iTunes on your computer.

Plug the Apple TV into your computer using the micro USB cable that came with the device.

Open iTunes on your computer.

Press and hold the down arrow on the directional pad and the "MENU" button. Hold both buttons until the LED indicator on the Apple TV starts to blink.

Release both buttons and press and hold "MENU" and "PLAY." Release the buttons after another six seconds.
