Run a diagnostic test on your MacBook to determine the source of AirPort issues.

A problem with your MacBook's AirPort utility may be due to changes made to your wireless network configuration, which can cause a conflict that results in a weak or loss of Internet connectivity. The Network Diagnostic in your laptop's System Preferences checks for possible issues with your connection and offers options to help correct the problem. If you continue to experience AirPort problems and the Network Diagnostic tool did not find a problem with your configuration settings, contact your local Internet Service Provider to test your Internet connection.

Instructions

    • 1

Click "Apple" at the top of the desktop menu and click "System Preferences."

    • 2

Select "Network" and click "Assist Me" at the bottom of the Network window.

    • 3

Choose "Diagnostics" to launch the Network Diagnostics tool and click "Continue" to scan your computer's network connection. Click "Scan" to begin and then wait for the diagnostic tool to provide further onscreen instructions.

    • 4

Check that all wires are secure on the AirPort base station and make sure the light on the AirPort is a solid green. A solid green light indicates the network is connected to the Internet, whereas a flashing light means the Internet connection is down.

    • 5

Click the AirPort icon at the top of the desktop menu and make sure you are connected to the correct network. The current network has a check box next to it.

    • 6

Select "Advanced" in the Network window and click the name of your network in the Advanced window. Click the pencil icon and check the network's password to make sure the correct password was entered to connect to the network.
