How to Recycle a Glass Pitcher

How to Recycle a Glass Pitcher thumbnail
Glass can be recycled at your local recycling center.

Recycling centers make recycling unwanted glass items such as water pitchers an easy task. Clear glass is the easiest to recycle, and thus the most valuable. Colored glass pitchers can generally be recycled as well. Broken pitchers, however, may not be recyclable, depending on the type of glass from which they are made and the condition that it's in.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate your nearest recycling center. To do so, check your local directory, or type in your city information the Earth911 website. The website will give you a list of local recycling centers that accept glass. Alternatively, Earth911 can be reached by telephone at 1-800-CLEANUP.

Contact your local recycling center and describe the type of glass pitcher you wish to recycle. If the pitcher is broken, describe the condition that it's in. A representative will be able to tell you if the pitcher is recyclable.

    • 3

Take your glass pitcher to the local recycling center if it is acceptable. Be sure to take any other recyclables you have as well, such as glass bottles and aluminum cans. However, keep each type or recyclable material separate.

    • 4

Use your glass pitcher as a reused container around the house if you don't wish to get rid of it. Ideas for glass pitcher reuse include flower vases, change jars and liquid storage containers. Though it's always good to recycle unwanted materials, it's equally as environmentally friendly to reuse old items instead of buying new ones.
