How to Make a Sleep Sac

How to Make a Sleep Sac thumbnail
Your child is just one dress shirt and a few modifications away from his very own customized sleep sack.

Sleep sacks, sometimes called "Sleep sacs," are beneficial to babies and parents alike as they keep a child swaddled and comfortable all through the night. Typically costing around $20, sleep sacks can quickly become too expensive when you take into account the other necessities your baby needs, especially when you realize you need more than one sleep sack to accommodate your wash schedule. If you want to save some money, or even make a custom sleep sack to tailor your baby's comfort, you can make your own using an ordinary men's dress shirt and some sewing skills.

Instructions

    • 1

Place your store-bought sleep sack on top of the dress shirt so the sleep sack's zipper aligns with the dress shirt's buttons.

    • 2

Pin the sleep sack to the shirt to keep it in place during cutting. Cut around the sleep sack through both layers of the dress shirt but leave a border of 1/2 to 3/4 inch.

    • 3

Sew the top of each shoulder together and stitch. Press the seams with an iron.

    • 4

Cut out a neck hole from the top layer of the dress shirt using the sleep sack as a guide.

    • 5

Pin the sides and the bottoms together and stitch them closed. Turn right-side out and press with the iron.
