Change your indent levels in your paragraphs in PowerPoint.

Attempting to manually adjust paragraph indent levels in your PowerPoint presentation often causes additional problems to your formatting, such as extra spaces or uneven lines. PowerPoint includes dozens of formatting features to help prevent such hassles. For instance, Microsoft added paragraph level adjustment buttons, allowing you to increase or decrease indents on selected paragraphs. Use these tools to properly format your text boxes in PowerPoint.

      Click the text box where you want to adjust indent levels

      Select the text for which you want to change the indent levels.

      Click the "Home" tab at the top left.

      Click the "Increase List Level" or "Decrease List Level" button in the Paragraph section to increase or decrease the indent level for the selected text, respectively. The buttons resemble a block of text with a blue arrow pointing right or left. The name of the button appears while holding your mouse over a button in the Ribbon.

Tips & Warnings

  • Position your cursor at the start of a paragraph and press "Tab" to increase the indent or "Backspace" to decrease the indent.
