How to Connect an iPod Shuffle to a Regular iPod Docking Port
The connection point on an iPod shuffle differs drastically from the standard iPod connection port, so all of your iPod accessories with the "universal" dock do not work with the Shuffle. A few adapters on the market allow you to use your iPod shuffle with iPod speakers, power cords and computer USB dongles that use the regular dock.

1
Charge your iPod shuffle with the Apple iPod Dock Adapter for shuffle. This adapter can sit in a charger or speaker accessory or connect your iPod shuffle to a standard USB dongle dock with the standard size iPod dock, allowing you to connect your iPod shuffle and keep it supported, without risking damaging the dock or the shuffle.

Listen to the music on your iPod shuffle by using the Griffin Dock Adapter for iPod shuffle 2G. This adapter allows you to plug your iPod shuffle into speakers so you can listen to the music on it, because it plugs into the headphone jack, but it does not allow you to charge your iPod shuffle or connect it to your computer to adjust the files or settings.

Plug your iPod shuffle into a FastMac U-Connect Universal iPod Shuffle Adapter using the headphone jack. Because this adapter uses the headphone jack but no other connection to the iPod shuffle, you can listen to music, but you cannot charge it or connect it to your computer to adjust your files or settings.

Plug the USB port of your iPod shuffle into the Belkin Dock Adapter for iPod shuffle. It allows you to plug your iPod shuffle into any universal dock on an iPod accessory, a USB dongle to your computer or an iPod charger. You can charge your iPod shuffle and adjust files on it, as well as listening to your music.
