How to Form an Italic Script

How to Form an Italic Script thumbnail
HTML allows programmers to both position and style text.

HTML, or "HyperText Markup Language," allows programmers to create webpages that users can access in the Internet browser of their choice. CSS, or "Cascading Style Sheets," work in conjunction with HTML to allow a programmer to customize an Internet page's appearance. You can use either technology to create italicized script for your webpage. Most people use italicized script to indicate to readers that a particular section of text deserves special attention, or to delineate book and movie titles.

Instructions

  1. HTML

    • 1

Open the webpage you wish to edit in the text editor of your choice.

    • 2

Locate the text you wish to italicize. Place the text string "<em>" immediately before the first letter that you wish to italicize, and place the text string "</em>" immediately after the last letter you wish to italicize.

    • 3

Save your work and open the webpage in an Internet browser to verify that the code works as expected.

    CSS

    • 4

Open both the HTML file and associated CSS file in the text editor of your choice.

    • 5

Place the text string "<span class="italics">" in front of the first letter of the text you wish to modify. Place the text string "</span>" after the last letter of the word you wish to modify.

    • 6

In the CSS file, add the following text string: "italics { font-style: italic;}."

    • 7

Save both files and open the HTML file in a web browser to ensure that it forms italic text at the appropriate point.
