How to Make the Tassels on Knitted Scarves
Knitting produces a very even, regular scarf, but unlike weaving, it does not produce loose threads that can be tied off into tassels. Tassels give the edge of the scarf a more finished look, and they have the added benefit of giving the scarf some extra length. Make the tassels from the same yarn that you knitted the scarf from, or use a complimentary yarn.

1
Cut a length of yarn that is 6 inches long. This piece of yarn helps you pull the tassel through the scarf.
-
2
Cut five lengths of yarn that are twice as long as you want your tassels to be, plus 1 inch.
-
-
3
Push a crochet hook halfway through the scarf at the corner of one of the short edges, where you want the tassels to begin.
-
4
Fold the first length of yarn you cut in half and hook it with the crochet hook.
-
5
Pull the yarn halfway through the scarf so that there are two ends sticking out one side and a loop sticking out the other.
-
6
Slide the five lengths of yarn you cut for the tassel halfway through the loop.
-
7
Pull on the two ends of the loop firmly, pulling the five lengths of yarn halfway through to the other side. The five lengths of yarn are now doubled and pulled halfway through the scarf, with the loose ends on one side and a loop on the other.
-
8
Pull the first length of yarn that you cut away from the five lengths of yarn that will form the tassel.
-
9
Pull the loose ends of the five lengths of yarn through the loop tightly. This forms your first tassel.
-
10
Repeat until you have tassels all the way along the edge of your scarf.
