How to Tag With Serato

How to Tag With Serato thumbnail
Connect DJ hardware to your computer to control Serato Itch or Scratch Live.

Songs tags are embedded pieces of metadata that allow you to organize the music in Serato's Itch or Scratch Live digital DJing programs. You could, for example, tag all your old-school hip-hop tracks with that genre, or categorize songs into "warm-up," "peak-time" and "end of the night" groupings. Once you've tagged the songs in your Serato library, you can sort them according to their tags, or use Serato's search box to quickly locate the tracks you want to play. Add or edit a song's tags from within the list of songs in your Serato library.

Instructions

    • 1

Launch Serato Itch or Serato Scratch Live. Click the "Setup" button, then click the "Library" tab. Un-check the box next to "Protect Library." Click the "Setup" button again to close the configuration window.

    • 2

Navigate to the song that you want to tag in the file browser on the left-hand side of the Serato window. Click on the song to select it.

    • 3

Right-click the gray bar above the song and select the type of tag -- "Genre," for example, or "Grouping" -- that you want to add.

    • 4

Press "Ctrl" and "E" simultaneously to activate text editing mode. Press the "Tab" key until the cursor appears in the column corresponding to the tag that you want to add.

    • 5

Type the text for the tag and press "Enter." Repeat the process for any other tags you want to add.

Tips & Warnings

  • Certain Serato tags, including length, size and sample rate tags, are uneditable.
