How to Put Keys Back on an FX P Series Laptop

Keyboards take a lot of abuse over the course of a laptop's lifetime. Between liquids being spilled, crumbs and other debris falling between the keys, jewelry getting caught and the varying degrees of force being applied to the keys, sooner or later a key or two is likely to separate from the keyboard. However, just because the key has separated, it doesn't necessarily mean that it is broken. The two main components of a laptop key are the key cap, which is the face of the key, and the retainer clip, which secures the key cap to the board.

Instructions

Check the clips on the back of the key cap and the tabs on the retainer clip. If any of the clips or tabs are broken, the key will not re-attach properly. Any broken parts will need to be replaced.

    • 2

Use canned air to clean any dust, dirt and debris from the keyboard base. Debris of any kind can interfere with the function of a key and can increase the risk of damage to the key caps and retainer clips.

    • 3

Line the key cap up with the other keys on the same row and center it over the retainer clip. Press down on the key cap until the clips on the underside of the cap snap on to the tabs of the retainer clip.
