How to Make a Catalog in Dreamweaver

As part of the Adobe Creative Suite, the Dreamweaver software serves as the Suite's Web page design software, but Dreamweaver's capabilities extend further than just basic websites. Dreamweaver's functions for importing images and adding text work the same way as they would with a Web page to compile a catalog. Make a catalog to go on your website or make an entire website out of a catalog with Dreamweaver.

Instructions

    • 1

Open Dreamweaver. Click "HTML" at the start-up screen. A new Dreamweaver page opens in design view.

    • 2

Type the title of the catalog or catalog page and highlight the text.

    • 3

Open the "Property Inspector" at the bottom of the work area, if the panel is not already showing, and format the catalog title with the font, style, size and color options in the panel.

    • 4

Click the "Insert" menu and choose "Image."

    • 5

Browse to the first catalog image and double click it to add it to the Dreamweaver page. If a file path warning message appears, click the "OK" button. To resize the image, click it once to bring up the boxes in its corners. Press and hold the "Shift" key. Click a corner and drag it towards the middle to shrink it. It isn't advised to enlarge a picture, as it could get distorted. Shrinking images is optional.

    • 6

Repeat the "Insert" and "Image" process to add another picture in the same row as the first if you want multiple catalog images on the same line on the page. Otherwise, press the "Enter" key to drop to the line below the first picture.

    • 7

Type the catalog item's description, including order number, name and details about the product, and adjust the text appearance in the "Property Inspector" as desired.

    • 8

Add text along the row of pictures. Press "Enter" to start a new row and repeat the image and text addition process, creating as many rows for the catalog as desired.

    • 9

Click the "File" menu and choose "Save As." Enter a name for the catalog in the "File name" box and click the "Save" button.

Tips & Warnings

  • Dreamweaver doesn't support multi-click image adding, which is why you have to add each catalog image separately. It's beneficial to do this anyway, because Dreamweaver also doesn't support drag and drop capability. This means that once your image is inserted, you would have to cut and paste it anyway, requiring you to take extra steps.
