How to List College Attendance on a Resume

College degrees and courses can increase the chances of getting called for an interview and may even be required for certain positions. Since a resume is an essential tool in the job search process, recruiters may use them as the sole basis for deciding which candidates to call for interviews. Therefore, college degrees and courses should be listed in the education section of a resume, even if you are still in the process of earning your degree.

Instructions

    • 1

Provide your personal contact information, such as name, address, phone number and email address at the top of your resume and then provide an objective underneath your contact information. The objective should be a sentence describing the type of position you want.

    • 2

Write "Education" as a section heading before listing your education information.

    • 3

Write the name and address of the institution that you most recently attended under the "Education" section heading.

    • 4

Write the type of degree you are working toward and the year in which you plan to earn it on the next line. When you have completed your degree, update your resume by writing the date that you earned the degree.

    • 5

Write your current grade point average on the next line. When you complete your coursework, update your resume by replacing this information with your final grade point average.

    • 6

Leave a space and write the name and address of the next most recent institution you attended, if any, followed by the type of degree earned and the year. Write your grade point average on the next line.

    • 7

Leave a space after the education section and continue the next section of your resume. On a typical resume, work experience is listed after education.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you took certain courses that are directly relevant to the position you are applying for, you may wish to make a note of those courses in the education section.
