Use old cutlery to make a metal wind chime

Wind chimes are decorative devices commonly found on porches and in gardens. The chimes are made with materials featuring a harmonic resonance pleasing to the human ear. When the wind blows, the moving parts of the chime collide and create a musical sound. Use metal pieces such as recycled spoons, forks and knives to create your own inexpensive wind chime.

Instructions

    • 1

Use a can opener to remove the other end of an opened, empty can. Wash the can thoroughly.

    • 2

Drill four, evenly spaced holes in a row along one side of the length of the can using an electric drill.

    • 3

Cut five lengths of twine each 15 inches in length. Thread one piece through the length of the can and tie the two ends in a knot above the can on the side opposite from the holes you drilled.

    • 4

Thread the rest of the twine pieces through the holes you drilled in step two. Tie knots at the end of each string inside the can to keep them from falling out of the holes.

    • 5

Tie the loose strings around your recycled cutlery. Tie one piece per string or thread several pieces on each string for a louder wind chime. Use the first piece you tied in step 3 to hang the wind chime from a hook where the wind will move the chime.
