Instructions

  1. Short Hair

    • 1

Start with hair that is not freshly washed. Clean hair is too slippery to style, so wait a day or two for some natural buildup.

    • 2

Scoop out a pea-size amount of pomade and rub lightly between your hands.

    • 3

Rake the pomade through your hair, covering your entire head with product. The pomade will give strong hold while creating spiky definition throughout.

    • 4

Comb the sides of your hair up toward the center to create a peak.

    • 5

Shape the faux hawk by running your flat palms along either side of the peak.

    • 6

Select 1-inch sections of hair along the faux hawk and twist the tips between your fingers to create sharps spikes. Continue twisting and shaping the faux hawk until you're happy with the look, then spritz with hairspray to lock the look in place.

    Long Hair

    • 7

Brush your hair to remove any tangles, then smooth a grape-size amount of pomade through from root to tip.

    • 8

Make a small ponytail in the center of your head near your forehead. Smooth the hair up into the ponytail using your comb.

    • 9

Make another ponytail right behind your first and continue making ponytails, one after another, along the center of your head.

    • 10

Backcomb each ponytail to give the faux hawk fullness and spikiness.

    • 11
Use clear elastics so that they blend into your faux hawk.

Dip your fingers in the pomade, then select 1-inch pieces of hair from each ponytail to twist. Twist the tips between your fingers to create spikes. Continue adding spikes throughout the hawk until you are satisfied with the look, then mist with hairspray to hold the style.
