How to Maintain Body and Curls in a Weave
Many women yearn for the long, flowing locks of Hollywood celebrities. While some ladies are naturally blessed with thick, shiny hair, many others rely on styling options like weaves to provide the look. However, weaves don't always come with natural body and curls and maintaining the vibrant, bouncy look can take some work. You'll need regular styling sessions to create and maintain natural body and curl with a weave. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Vented paddle brush
- Curling iron
- Foam hair rollers
- Bobby pins
- Heat protectant spray
- Hairspray
- Hair clips
Instructions
-
Natural hair weaves
-
1
Brush your hair to remove knots or tangles.
-
2
Section hair into small areas with hair clips.
-
-
3
Spray each section with the heat protectant spray. This protects the hair from the heat of the curling iron, and also will help to retain the integrity of each curl long after the hair has been styled.
-
4
Working with 1-inch sections, wrap your hair around the barrel of the curling iron. Hold for no longer than 30 seconds, and then release.
-
5
Run your fingers gently through your hair once you finish curling all sections. This will loosen the curls.
-
6
Spray hairspray over the entire hair style. This sets the style into place. Special, strong-holding hairsprays can be purchased at beauty supply stores or drugstores.
Synthetic weaves
-
7
Gently wash your hair, blotting excess water from hair.
-
8
Section hair using hair clips.
-
9
Roll each section of hair around a foam roller, securing into place with bobby pins. Some brands of foam rollers have their own pins to secure into place.
-
10
Lightly spray the set hair with hairspray. Wait for the hair to dry to remove the foam rollers. If you are limited on time, you can use a hair dryer at its lowest setting to speed up the drying process.
-
11
Remove the foam rollers. Run your fingers gently through your hair to break up the curls and to achieve your desired waviness. Spray hair again with hairspray.

Tips & Warnings
If you are concerned about exposing your human hair weave to the heat of a curling iron, consider using foam rollers after wetting your hair.
To remove knots from your hair after it's been curled, use a pick rather than a brush, which can ruin the integrity of the curls.
Certain brands of synthetic weaves can handle the heat from a curling iron. Ask your stylist about these brands and be absolutely certain you have that particular type of synthetic weave before using a curling iron.
If you are using a curling iron, keep it heated to its lowest setting. High heat can ruin the integrity of the weave.
