1
Cut three strands of string, yarn, or embroidery floss. These can be the same color, though it will be easier for beginners to work with multiple colors. The three strands should all be the same length, approximately one inch longer than the measurement of the wrist for the recipient.
-
2
Tie the ends of the string together by holding the three strings together then wrapping the ends around themselves and through the ensuing loop, to make a knot at one end of the strings.
-
-
3
Take a piece of masking tape between one and three inches long and tape the knot to the edge of a table.
-
4
Hold the strands out from the table in front of you so that they are taut.
-
5
Take the left-hand string and tuck it under the middle string, as though you were making a knot. Pull the left-hand string tight as you slide it up the middle string, so that the knot is made near your original knot that tied your three strands together. Repeat this so that the left-hand string is now in the middle.
-
6
Repeat Step 5 with the original middle and right-hand strands, then repeat, alternating double-knotting all three strands until you have approximately half an inch of string remaining. Move the tape down as you go to keep your friendship bracelet straight.
-
7
Make a knot at the remaining end of the string, tying it as you did the other end in Step Two. Remove the tape.
