How to Make a Friendship Bracelet Without Knots

Rather than making a friendship bracelet out of a series of various knots, use a weaving method. Weaving permits the crafter to use different colors and patterns of string to make a tightly bound bracelet. By using superglue to secure the strings in place at the ends, crafters don't use any knots to make the woven bracelet. Once the crafter learns the weaving technique, she can increase or decrease the amount of strings used to make the bracelet.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut six 25-inch pieces of embroidery floss, any color you want. Use six different colors. Gather the six strings in one hand so the ends are even and the strings are together in a line. Spread a thin line of superglue across the strings 1 inch down from the ends. Wait 10 minutes for the glue to dry.

    • 2

Place a piece of masking tape across the ends of the strings, above the line of glue. Press the tape to a sturdy, flat surface. Arrange the six strings so they sit next to each other.

    • 3

Pick up the last string on the left. Lift up the second string and pull the first under it. Pull up the fourth string. Pull the first string underneath that one so it sits on top of the third string. Pull the first string underneath the sixth string so it lies across the fifth string. Gently pull on the end of the first string.

    • 4

Take the end of the first string over the sixth string. Lift the fifth and third strings. Pull the first string so it goes under the fifth and third string and lies on top of the fourth and second string. Pull the string all the way through the lifted strings. Use your fingers to push the two horizontal rows towards the tape.

    • 5

Repeat Steps Three and Four until only 1 inch of the first string is left. Each horizontal row should touch the one above and below it.

    • 6

Squeeze a thin line of superglue around the bottom two rows of the bracelet. Let is dry for 10 minutes. Remove the tape from the upper portion of the bracelet. Use the loose ends to tie the bracelet around the wearer's wrist.
