How to Make a Keychain With a Paper Clip

Paper clips are useful metal office supplies that are used to hold pieces of paper together. There are many craft projects you can make using paper clips as a tool. One of these crafts is a key chain. Making a paper clip key chain requires using pliers and sandpaper to craft the paper clip into a safe-to-touch, circular shape. Only create this craft if you understand how to safely use pliers.

  Use your pliers to bend your paper clip into a circular shape, keeping the clip's ends overlapping. Twist the two ends around until a second circular shape forms. This creates an inner loop and outer loops that corresponds to the metal key loop on a key chain.

  Use your file and sandpaper to smooth the sharp points at the ends of the paper clip. Smoothing these out also makes it easier to slip your keys on and off.

  Slip your string around the outer key chain loop point and slide it down the loop until it is at the inner loop. Tie the string in place tightly to hold it in place on the loop.

  Cut the string to 3 to 4 inches long. Slide your beads and other decorative items onto the string until there is about 1/2 inch left at the end.

  Thread your string through the hole of your metal belt clip and tie it in place tightly. Put your keys on the paper clip loop and clamp your belt clip to your pants to hold your key chain in place.
