How to Adjust the Width of a Table in Joomla
You can install an improved editor in Joomla that allows you to use more advanced editing features when writing content. This Content Editor works in a very similar way to popular word processing programs such as Microsoft Word, using a "What You See Is What You Get," or WYSIWYG, interface. This means that you can insert and adjust tables directly from within the editor without having to worry about HTML or CSS coding.

1
Go to JoomlaContentEditor.net. Click "Downloads," then "Editor," then click the version of Joomla you are using. Find the file called "Single installation package for Joomla" that is also labeled with your version of Joomla. Click it and save it to your computer.

2
Log in to your Joomla administration area, then click "Extensions," "Install/Uninstall" and the option to upload a file. Locate the file you just saved, click it and click "OK," then go to "Site," "Global Configuration" and choose "JCE" in the "Default WYSIWYG Editor" field.

Open up the article you want to add the table to. Click in the article at the point you want it to go, then click the "Inserts a new table" button, which looks like a grid with a pencil hovering over it. In the dialog box that appears, change the options to set the number of rows, width, border and other table features, then click "Insert."
-
4
Click inside the cells of the table and type or paste in any content you want.
-
5
Click the cell of any section of the table that you want to adjust. A number of buttons are now active next to the main "Inserts a new table" button. The one directly to the right is the "Table row properties" button. Click this to adjust the width of the row. Once you've set up the table, you must adjust the width of each row manually.

Tips & Warnings
Using the new buttons on the Joomla Content Editor, you can also easily insert new rows, delete rows, insert or delete columns, split table cells into separate tables and merge separate tables together.
If you do not set a table width when you initially insert the table, the table automatically adjusts itself to fit whatever content is inside.
