How to Get Experience as a Market Research Analyst
A market analyst could be called a "business scientist." A person in this position develops ways to gather information about the current market and analyzes the data to determine how successful a particular business will be. Individuals working as market analysts generally have an extensive background in business, economics, advertising and marketing. They have the ability to gather, analyze and translate detailed, mathematical data and to employ creative thinking techniques, and they are excellent communicators. If market analysis appeals to you, there are several ways to prepare for a career in the field.

Get involved in the local business scene as soon as you decide on a career in business analysis. Volunteer for the chamber of commerce or economic development groups to familiarize yourself with the market and network with business owners.

Get your educational career on the right path as soon as you can, starting with high-school economics, business and mathematics classes. Apply to a college that has a school of business with a solid reputation. Study economics, business practices, statistics, data gathering, data analysis, marketing and advertising. Make peer connections in areas of interest. Most top positions require a doctorate in economics or business.

Apply for internships and apprenticeships during your college career. Work with an experienced market research analyst or market analysis firm. Assist with research projects, projections, data gathering, creating charts, graphs and other visuals.
