Apple's iLife, including iMovie, comes preloaded on all new Mac computers.

Apple iMovie '09 is a user-friendly video editing application available in the iLife '09 suite of programs. When working with multiple images, audio clips or video clips, you may need to make one clip silent so the audio of a second can be heard over it. In order to do this, iMovie allows users to mute the sound in any single video clip.

Instructions

    • 1

Open iMovie by clicking "Go" in the Finder, then "Applications." Then double-click the iMovie application in the list.

    • 2

Double-click the project you want to work with in the project library panel, to bring up the project viewer.

    • 3

Click the thumbnail image of the clip you want to mute the sound on in the project panel. Then click "Edit" in the menu at the top of the screen, and click "Mute Clip."

Tips & Warnings

  • Alternatively, you can press Command-Shift-M while a clip is selected, to mute the audio.
