How to Make Earrings Out of Anything
If you can punch a hole in it, you can probably make an earring out if it. Finding new and unique lightweight items to turn into a pair of earrings is a terrific way to make jewelry that goes with every outfit you own. Your new earrings will be one-of-a-kind, and personal. Creating simple hanging earrings with any material is easy and will take you less than an hour.
Things You'll Need
- Two lightweight objects, as desired
- One pair French earring wires
- Two ¼-inch round jump rings
- Awl
- Hammer
- Jewelry pliers
- Jewelry glue

Use an awl and hammer to make a hole to hang your objects. Take the first small, lightweight object you've chosen for your earring and punch a small hole 1/8-inch from the top of the object with an awl and hammer.

Using small jewelry pliers, slightly twist a ¼-inch round jump ring open.

Hang the earring object on the jump ring; then hang the jump ring on the loop end of a French earring wire.

Jewelry pliers have small tips to work with jewelry. Twist the jump ring closed using the jewelry pliers, and place a small drop of jewelry glue on the seam of the jump ring to secure it permanently.

Repeat the process for other earring to complete the pair.

Tips & Warnings
Add multiple lightweight items like chain or ribbon to the earrings to create more movement in the piece.
Make sure the items you select are appropriately light in weight, and will not pull excessively on your earlobes.
