How to Form a Puffy Afro

How to Form a Puffy Afro thumbnail
An afro puff is a cute afro variation.

The afro hairstyle, also known as "fro" or "natural," was first made famous in the African-American community in the 1960s. African-American men and women alike widely sported this hairstyle by letting their natural curls stick out all around the head like a dome or a halo. The afro lost its popularity in the late 1970s, but made a beautiful comeback in the new millennium. Many modern afro wearers, especially women, love to put a spin on this style by pushing their afro back and making it look puffier. It can be pretty convenient for people with natural curls to form their hair into an afro puff. For straight-haired individuals, it is a little more complicated but still doable. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

  1. For People with Curly Hair

    • 1

Wash your hair with shampoo and allow it to dry naturally.

    • 2

Brush your hair well and run your fingers through it to make sure it is tangle-free.

    • 3

Apply hair gel or oil to the roots and edges of your hair.

    • 4

Push your hair back slightly with your hands.

    • 5

Roll or fold a leg of stockings into a long strip. You use this as your hair band. Put it right above your forehead, pull each end back behind your ears and crisscross them at the nape of your neck.

    • 6

Pull each end to tighten the wrap and push your creative "hair band" back until your afro puff reaches the desired size.

    • 7

Take both ends up to the crown of your head, crisscross them and pull them back down one more time. Knot them together securely at the nape of your neck.

    For People with Straight Hair

    • 8

Wash your hair with shampoo and use a towel to remove excess moisture.

    • 9

Thoroughly apply volumizing mousse to your damp hair. Then allow the hair to dry.

    • 10

Curl your hair with a curling iron. Make it as curly as possible, not just wavy.

    • 11

Separate your curls and create volume by using a fine-toothed comb to backcomb your hair. Backcombing can be done by running the comb from the tips to the roots two to three times.

    • 12

Carefully shape your afro with your hands. Try to make it as round and dome-like as possible. Apply hairspray to hold it in place.

    • 13

Roll or fold a leg of stockings into a long strip, then complete step 5 to 7 in section 1.
