How to Remove a Crimp Clamp

How to Remove a Crimp Clamp thumbnail
Hoses in engines often use a crimp clamp.

Crimp clamps are secured onto the ends of hoses in various appliances, such as the hoses in a vehicle's engine. Manufacturers use a specialized tool at the factory level of production to crimp the clamps into place on the hose. These clamps can become damaged after long lengths of time or require removal to re-use a hose for another project. In these cases, you will need to remove the crimp clamp by carefully cutting it off the hose.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the power supply for the appliance containing the crimped hose clamp. For example, shut the fluid source to a hose or set a vehicle to "Park."

    • 2

Apply a small amount of degreaser to a rag. Clean the area around the crimp clamp with the degreaser.

    • 3

Position the wire cutters underneath the clamp. Insert the wire cutters under the clamp. Cut the clamp off the end of the hose by cutting small portions at a time. Work slowly so as to not damage the hose underneath the clamp.

    • 4

Pull the clamp off the hose carefully with a pair of pliers.
