How to Make a Friendship Bracelet With Wrapping Techniques
One favorite pastime of children is to wrap each other's hair. One child wrapped string around a small amount of hair, changing the color as she went along. The lucky child with the hair wrap wore it around for weeks. Use hair wrap techniques to make wrapped friendship bracelets. The result looks the same, but worn on the wrist for as long as the wearer wishes. Instead of wrapping string around hair, wrap it around yarn.

1
Measure and cut 6 feet of the yarn. Fold the yarn in half to make a loop. Tie a knot 1/2 inch below the fold.
-
2
Place the clipboard on your lap and clip the loop of the yarn to the board. Twist the two lengths of yarn together, but do not twist them too tightly that they curl up on themselves. Tie a knot at the end of the twisted yarn so that they do not untwist while working on the bracelet.

3
Measure and cut 6 feet of the embroidery floss in all three colors.
-
4
Fold one color of the embroidery floss in half. Place the middle underneath the yarn just below the knot at the loop. Tie a knot with the floss. Repeat this step with the other two lengths of embroidery floss. You will have six equal lengths of floss with two of each color. Make sure to tie them as close to the knot as possible.
-
5
Pick up two strands of the same color floss. Rest the other strands along the the yarn. Wrap the strands around the yarn and floss by wrapping it over the top of the yarn, around the side, underneath and back and to the front. Continue wrapping the strands, keeping them as close to each other as possible. You do not want to see the yarn and floss beneath.
-
6
Drop the strands used in Step 5 when you are satisfied with the amount of the first color that you have used and lay them alongside the yarn. Pick up the strands of a second color and begin wrapping them around the yarn. Make sure to wrap the new strands as close to the bottom of the last color as possible.
-
7
Repeat Step 6 with the last color. Continue to wrap the strands, switching from one color to the next until the bracelet is the desired length.
-
8
Separate the strands of the last color used. Tie a knot around the yarn using the separated strands. Repeat this step with the other colors. Cut off any remaining embroidery floss as close to the knots as possible. Cut any remaining yarn, but leave at least 2 inches to tie the bracelet.

Tips & Warnings
Use as many colors as you want. You are not limited to three.
Use other types of string, such as silk thread, hemp or even thin wire.
Add beads by stringing them onto the yarn and every strand of floss. Continue wrapping below the beads.
The strings may become twisted around the yarn. Prevent this by pulling the strands all the way out to the left or right with each wrap around the yarn.
