How to Make Straight Laced Shoes
Bar lacing is a style of shoe lacing that creates a series of bars which lace straight across the tongue of the shoe and finish with the ends of the laces hidden behind the tongue. The two most common styles of shoes where straight lacing is used are business apparel, where the bars create a clean and professional look, and skate shoes, where leaving the loose ends untied after straight lacing creates loose shoes that are easy to slip on and off. 1
Thread the left end of the lace through the lower left eyelet and the right end through the lower right eyelet, with both ends passing through from the outside of the shoe into the shoe. Center the lace.
-
2
Pull the left end through the left eyelet third from the bottom.
-
-
3
Pull the right end through the right eyelet second from the bottom. Each lace is emerging on the outside of the shoe, with one lace end a row above the other. This is the default start of one repetition of the lace.
-
4
Cross the right end over the tongue section and through the second-from-bottom left eyelet from the outside in. Both ends are now on the left, with the lower end inside the shoe and the upper end outside the shoe.
-
5
Cross the top end straight across to the third eyelet on the right, passing it through from the outside in.
-
6
Pull the end now on the right up two rows, to the eyelet fifth from the bottom then pass it back outside the shoe.
-
7
Pass the left end up to the next available left eyelet, fourth from the bottom, and pull through the eyelet so the lace is outside the shoe. You are now in the default position, only reversed.
-
8
Continue lacing until you have created bars in every row of eyelets and the lace ends are inside the shoe.
-
9
Tie the laces behind your tongue for a snug hidden knot, or simply tuck the laces under your feet for loose, untied shoes.
