How to Make a Cut-Out Conductor's Hat
An old-time train, with its steam engine, blowing whistle and conductor waving through the window, is a fascinating sight for young children. If your little one can't get enough of trains and dreams of driving one himself, make a craft project to encourage his imagination. He can color a cut-out conductor's hat and hang it on the wall or attach it to a strip of paper to wear.
Things You'll Need
- Paper or cardboard
- Black marker
- Paint, markers or crayons

1
Draw an outline of the front of a conductor's hat on a piece of paper or cardboard with a black marker. Have the child do it himself if he's old enough. Draw a badge in the middle of the hat that says "conductor" for identification.
-
2
Decorate the outline of the conductor's hat with paint, markers or crayons. Draw blue and white stripes for a traditional look or let the child come up with his own creative style.

-
3
Cut the outline of the conductor hat out with safety scissors or assist a child by doing it yourself.
-
4
Measure the width of the child's head and cut a strip of thick paper in that length plus 1 inch. Staple or tape it together. Attach the conductor hat cutout to the strip for wearing.
