How to Tan Without Accentuating a Scar
When exposed to prolonged sunlight, scar tissue will change color just like other skin. This will sometimes accentuate the appearance of the scar, because it will still be a very different color than unscarred tissue. Rather than slapping a bandage over the scar and risking additional tan lines, you can tan all the preferred areas on your body except your scar. Sunless tanner, properly applied, will yield an attractive, genuine-looking tan while your scar stays lighter. The other major benefit of sunless tanner is a favorable finished look without the risk of skin cancer. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Take a shower and use an exfoliating scrub on any area of the body that you wish to tan. This will slough away dead skin cells and prepare the skin to absorb the tanner evenly.
-
2
Rub a regular moisturizer on all areas you wish to tan after you have toweled yourself dry.
-
-
3
Rub some self-tanning lotion between your palms and smooth it over the preferred areas. Apply a thin, even layer to the areas, wiping your hands thoroughly with an old towel in between sections.
-
4
Dip a makeup sponge into the self-tanner when you are tanning around the scar. Gently dab the formula over the skin just outside the scar, to completely surround it with self-tanner. Using the makeup sponge will help blend the tanner around the scar for a smooth color transition; even though the scar will stay white, it will be less noticeable than if it were to tan.
-
5
Allow the tanner to dry thoroughly before putting your clothes back on. Avoid showering for at least 12 hours.
