How to Get Box Dye Off Scalp
Using hair dye at home can cause a mess, especially if working with darker colors. It can leave stains on the skin and scalp that may be hard to get out. There are a few tricks and tips that one can try to remove the stubborn dye, with most of the ingredients found right in your own bathroom. Things You'll Need
- Cotton balls
- Alcohol-based toner
- Toothpaste
- Vinegar
- Washcloth
- Paper towels
- Water

Soak a cotton ball with alcohol-based toner and blot on the hairline and scalp to remove any leftover dye. Do this with as many cotton balls as needed until all the dye is removed.

Squeeze a small amount of toothpaste onto your fingers and work into the scalp, as this will also remove any remaining dye left on the scalp and skin. Wet a washcloth with warm water to remove the toothpaste and dye.

Wet a paper towel with distilled white vinegar and rub into the scalp. The vinegar will remove all traces of leftover dye. It's recommended to wash your hair after the treatment to get rid of the vinegar smell.

Purchase a small bottle of hair dye remover at your local beauty supply store and pour a bit onto a cotton ball or pad to remove the dye from scalp. This is usually inexpensive, costing no more than $5.

Use petroleum jelly along the hairline and on the scalp before dyeing your hair the next time. This will prevent any stains on the skin.
