How to Make Subcategories in Gmail

Gmail's email categorization feature does not include folders, like many other email services. It does, however, include a labeling feature, which works similar. The labeling feature allows nesting, which lets you create sub-labels nested beneath primary labels. In this sense, the sub-label operates as a sub-category. You can create nested labels to help you further organize your important Gmail email messages.

Instructions

    • 1

Sign in to your Gmail account.

    • 2

Click on "Labels," and then click on "Manage Labels."

    • 3

      Click on "Create New Label."

    • 4

Name in the label in the "Name" field.

    • 5

Check the box next to "Nest Label Under...," and select the primary label category. The new label will be nested under the primary label category. Click on "Create."
