How to Connect a Game Console Through a VCR

Connect a video game console through a VCR or directly to the TV.

Older TVs may only have a single set of RCA input jacks, meaning you can only connect one device directly to the TV. If you already have a VCR connected to the TV and you want to connect a video game console so you can use both, you'll need to connect the console to the VCR and treat all the devices as a chain of electronic components.

Instructions

    • 1

      Power on the VCR.

    • 2

Connect the game console's A/V cable to the A/V port on the VCR. This cable has a custom connector on one end that plugs into the matching port on the console and an RCA cable on the other end.

    • 3

Locate the "Input" jacks on the VCR. Plug the RCA cables from the console into these jacks.

    • 4

Press the "Input" button on your remote control or VCR. Remember that the VCR must be powered on to run input through it to the TV.
