How to Make a Fat Hemp Necklace With a Skinny String
You don't need thicker hemp to make a big hemp necklace. You can use skinny hemp, which is 20 pound test hemp twine, and double it up to increase the thickness of the necklace. When you craft a thick hemp necklace in this fashion it becomes slightly more difficult to knot the hemp. Beginner hemp jewelry makers should be able to adjust quickly to this alteration, however.

1
Measure a 30 inch length of hemp twine and cut it. Measure and cut two 6 feet lengths of hemp twine.
-
2
Fold the 30 inch hemp twine in half. Tape the bottom of the twine to your working surface.
-
-
3
Gather the 6 foot strands of hemp together. Fold these strands in half. Hold these strands together with the 30 inch strand.
-
4
Loop the three strands around your finger and pull the loop through the hole to create an overhand knot.
-
5
Tape the top loop down to your working surface. Separate the four strands from the folded 6 foot twine so that two strands are on each side.
-
6
Hold the right side double strands together. Create a figure four with the strands over the taped down middle hemp. Pull the left strand hemp on top of the right side hemp. Pull the left strand hemp under the center hemp and through the figure four's hole. Pull the hemp twine tight.

Repeat this process, starting with the left side hemp. Alternate starting with the right and left side until your hemp necklace is the desired length. Untape the center hemp at the bottom of the necklace and make an overhand knot with all of your strands to finish the piece.
