How to Troubleshoot an HP7280
All-in-one printers like the HP C7280 combine the functionality of a printer, scanner and copier into a single unit. This money and space-saving design can be very useful for home and business users alike. One drawback, however, is that when one unit of the all-in-one fails, the others can be affected as well. Learning how to diagnose common problems like poor quality copies and document feeder jams allows you to keep your HP C7280 running and avoid unnecessary repair costs.

1
Lift the top cover of the HP 7280.

2
Spray the entire glass surface with a non-abrasive glass cleaner, then wipe the glass with a soft, lint-free cloth. Dry the glass thoroughly. If the corners of the glass are soiled, use a cotton swab dipped in glass cleaner to remove any dirt and debris.

3
Unplug the USB cable from the back of the HP 7280 and the computer if the printer is not communicating with the PC. Plug the USB cable back in and try sending your print job again. Shut down the PC and the HP 7280 all-in-one if the problem persists. Start the HP 7280, wait for it to come to a ready state, then restart the computer to re-establish communication.

4
Check for paper clips or staples if you experience a jam in the automatic document feeder. The ADF is designed for plain paper and it has a maximum capacity of 50 pages. Overloading the ADF or using damaged or stapled paper can cause jams and damage the scanner as well.

5
Turn the HP 7280 off and carefully pull out the two-sided printing accessory if you experience a paper jam. Push the tabs at the sides to remove the unit, then remove the jammed paper from the rollers. Check the quality of the paper if you experience repeated paper jams. Remove any torn or crumpled sheets and do not overfill the paper tray.
