How to Layer Hair Tutorial

How to Layer Hair Tutorial thumbnail
Layered haircuts give hair body and shape.

Many hairstyles are possible for people with medium to long hair. People with different-shaped faces and bodies look good with different haircuts. However, layered hair is appropriate for almost everyone. Layered hair is hair cut to lay at different layers, instead of in one length. This creates a framing for the face and adds body to heavy, weighed-down hair. Cutting your own hair into a layered cut is possible and saves money you would otherwise spend at salons. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Wash and condition your hair; towel-dry your hair until it is only damp. Stand in front of a mirror.

    • 2

Place a towel beneath you to catch cut hair and keep your work space clean.

    • 3

Comb your damp hair using a wide-tooth comb to remove any tangles.

    • 4

Hold a tuft of your hair by the tips from the very top of your head straight up. Cut this tuft of hair at your desired length; all of your hair will come to this point when held above your head when layering. This creates a natural layered look; the hair on the top of your head is shortest.

Hold up another tuft of hair next to your first one; cut it to the same length. Ensure your hair comes to the same point when held straight above your head. Continue this with surrounding hair by slowly moving outward; move down both sides of your head as you continue until all of your hair is trimmed.
