How to Track Facebook Shares
With Facebook Insights, you can track Facebook shares on your domain. The Facebook Insights dashboard is a free tool to better understand the people who visit your domain, including the posts or content they like, what items they are sharing with their friends and important user demographic information. To start tracking Facebook shares, you will need to first associate your domain with a Facebook account, application or page.

Go to facebook.com/insights and log into your Facebook account.

Click the "Insights for Your Website" button near the upper right corner of the page. A pop-up box appears.

Enter your website address in the "Domain" text field box. Then select the account, page or app you want to link the domain with. Click the "Link With" drop-down box if you want to change it from the default profile to something else.

Copy the "FB:Admins" meta property tag provided in the dialog box. Keep the browser window open.

Open the main HTML file for your website in a text or HTML editor. Paste the Facebook meta property tag into the top head section of the HTML code. It should go somewhere between the "<head>" and "</head>" tags.

Save and upload the HTML file back to your domain.

Go back to the browser window and click the "Get Insights" button in the "Get Insights for Your Website" dialog box. You will see a "Loading" message as Facebook takes several moments to check your website for the code. You will be notified once the domain is ready for viewing on the Facebook Insights dashboard.

Click the "Select Insights" menu button from the left sidebar on the Facebook Insights page. and select your domain below the "Websites" heading. The page will load with the reports, which will show the "Daily Likes," Daily Shares," "Feedback per Share," and "Reshare Rate" reporting data.
