How to Close a Bracelet

How to Close a Bracelet thumbnail
Making your own bracelets is a craft for all ages.

Using thin jewelry wire allows you to create a lightweight, sturdy bracelet. Regardless of your bracelet's design and appearance, closing the bracelet is a difficult step. Attaching a metal closure creates a study, professional-looking finished product. When creating your own bracelet you can select a toggle clasp closure in a design that matches your bracelet's appearance.

  • 2 jump rings
  • 2 calottes
  • Crimp beads
  • Crimping pliers

Instructions

    • 1

Cut a length of wire 1 inch longer than your intended finished bracelet.

    • 2

Slide a crimping bead onto one end of the wire length. Use your crimping pliers to crimp the bead using the crescent-shaped option on your pliers. Turn the wire over and crimp the bead again with the smaller option on your pliers. The bead is now a thinner bead crimped to the wire.

    • 3

Trim the wire next to the crimp bead to remove any excess.

    • 4

Slide the crimping bead's calotte, the second piece sold with your crimping bead, onto the wire until it's next to the crimping bead.

    • 5

Flatten the calotte using your chain-nose pliers to encase the crimping bead.

    • 6

Use your chain-nose pliers to open a jump ring by gently pulling the two ends apart. Slide the calotte link onto the jump ring. Slide your toggle clasp's bar ring onto the jump ring. Close the jump ring using your chain-nose pliers.

    • 7

Finish sliding your beads or decorations onto your jewelry wire. Stop when your bracelet is the correct length.

    • 8

Slide a calotte onto the wire, followed by a crimp bead. Use bent nosed pliers to widen the calotte to give you access to the crimp bead.

    • 9

Using bent-nose pliers, flatten the crimp bead. Trim off any excess wire right next to the crimp bead.

    • 10

Close the calotte using your chain-nose pliers.

    • 11

Open another jump ring and slide the ring of the calotte onto it. Slide the ring of your toggle clasp onto the jump ring. Close the jump ring to complete your bracelet.
