How to Find the Measurements for a Blazer From the Waist Size

Measure your waist size to help determine your clothing size.

Every person has a different figure and certain measurements should be taken when determining the size of a blazer. It should be the right length with long enough sleeves, and should fit perfectly at the waist area and in the shoulders. However, using just the waist size measurement, you can determine the appropriate measurements for the blazer based on charted average sizes that the waist measurement corresponds to.

1. Use a tape measure to measure the size of your waist. Wear a thin layer of clothing or none at all at the waist and measure around your natural waistline, in the mid-section. Place 1 or 2 fingers under the tape to keep it loose, which will give you room to breathe in the resulting garment.

2. Note down the measurement either in inches or centimeters, whichever you are most comfortable with.

3. Obtain a size guide from the manufacturer of your chosen blazer, which is available online on the company's website and in store. Each clothing brand relies on their own size guide, therefore your waist size may determine different measurements depending on a particular company's size guide. One example is the Tahari Size Guide from Neiman Marcus. Size guides are helpful in determining a size.

4. Use your chosen size guide to determine the measurements for a blazer. You may check more than one size guide. For example, if your natural waist measures about 25.5 inches, according to the Tahari Size Guide, your bust would measure 33 inches, your drop waist would measure 28.5 inches, your low hip measurement would be 35.5 inches and your sleeve length would be 21.75 inches.

Men

1. Use a tape measure to determine your natural waistline's measurement. Blazer sizes for men are usually determined by using the chest size, or by using the waist size of pants. You can determine the size by taking your pant waist size and adding 6 inches to it. The waist size measurement can be taken to determine the remaining measurements of a blazer for men.

2. Find a size guide online or in store from the company that manufactures your chosen blazer.

3. Locate your size in the size guide. The size of a blazer corresponds to the chest size, according to Eddie Bauer, but from the waist size alone you can figure out the other measurements. For example, if your waist measurement is 32 inches, your chest size would measure 38 inches, your neck measurement would be 15 inches, and your arm length would be 33.5. Using these measurements, you would find your size, which in this case is a Medium.

• Remember that each blazer company has different measurements. Use your waist measurement and a size chart from a chosen company, preferably the one that you will purchase the blazer from, to determine the exact remaining measurements. Your waist size may make you a size S from one company but a size XS from another company.
