How to Have a Longer-Length Status on Facebook

Make your Facebook status longer than the permitted character limit to convey a message you need more words to say. By default, Facebook limits status updates to 420 characters. When you attempt to post an update longer than this, an error message displays and prevents you from posting the message. Although it isn't possible to lift this carrier limit, it is possible to post the entire message within a single news feed post.

Instructions

    • 1

Attempt to post the long message as if it wasn't longer than allowed. Take note of the number of characters Facebook informs you the message contains. For example, it might say "Your Message Contains 499 Characters."

    • 2

Count backward starting with the last character of the message until you get to 420 characters. Click your mouse in front of character number 421, and drag it to the end of the message. Right-click, and select "Copy." Click "Share" to post the message.

    • 3

Click your mouse inside the "Comment" field; then right-click and choose "Paste." Hit the "Enter" key to add the rest of the status update to the same post. Unless someone else has commented since you made the initial post, your add-on appears directly below the main message, which cues readers to continue reading.
