How to Heal a Bikini Razor Burn

Never use soap when shaving because it may be harsh on delicate skin and lead to razor burn.

Razor burn is caused by skin becoming irritated from shaving. The result is a painful, red rash. Shaving in the wrong direction, using a dull razor or not lubricating the skin can contribute to razor burn. A razor burn in the bikini area is especially painful because the skin is so delicate. Don't be alarmed, however; you can heal a bikini razor burn if you treat it carefully and apply ingredients designed to soothe and heal the sensitive skin.

Things You'll Need

• Clean washcloth
• Witch hazel
• Cotton pad
• Aloe vera gel
• Hydrocortisone cream

Instructions

1. 

   Use cool water to soothe the skin.

   Soothe the bikini area with cold water. Place a cold cloth on the area and hold it against the bikini area for 2 or 3 minutes. Alternatively, take a cool shower and allow the water to run over the bikini area for 2 or 3 minutes.

2. 

   Apply witch hazel with a cotton pad.

   Apply witch hazel to the bikini area. Witch hazel is an astringent that can soothe and cleanse the delicate bikini area without causing pain. Simply pour some witch hazel onto a cotton pad and gently dab the bikini area with the cotton pad.

3. 

   Rub aloe vera gently into the skin.

   Use an aloe-vera gel on the irritated bikini area. Aloe vera is not only soothing, but may reduce the inflammation to the bikini area. Apply two or three drops to the razor-burned area. Rub the aloe vera gel into the skin in a gentle motion.

4. 

   Hydrocortisone can remove red sores.

   Apply a hydrocortisone cream to the bikini area. Buy an over-the-counter, 1-percent cream and place a couple of drops on the bikini area. Rub the area gently so that the hydrocortisone is absorbed. Apply the cream twice a day for 2 to 3 days. Always follow the directions on the label. The hydrocortisone will relieve the redness and pain.

5. 

   Tight underwear may cause discomfort.

   Wear loose underwear and clothing. Tight clothes may chafe the bikini area and cause more redness and irritation. Wear loose clothing for at least a day or two so that the bikini area can heal.
