How to Make a Single Tweet Public

A "tweet" is the term to describe a status update on the Twitter social networking service. Unlike Facebook and Google+, Twitter does not have a bevvy of privacy options and tweaks. Tweets are either public to the Internet or private to a select grouping of "followers" (friends on the service). If your Twitter account is protected and you wish to tweet publicly, you can temporarily switch your privacy settings. The option is always reversible.

Instructions

    • 1

Open your web browser, and navigate to Twitter.com.

    • 2

Log in to your Twitter account. Click your username in the upper right-hand corner, and select "Settings" from the drop-down menu.

    • 3

Scroll down to "Tweet Privacy" in the "Account" tab. Uncheck the "Protect My Tweets" box. This will allow your tweets to be public. Click "Save" to save the settings.

    • 4

Repeat the steps, and check the box "Protect My Tweets" when you wish to make your Twitter update(s) private again.
