How to Sew an Old-Fashioned Women's Cape
Before women wore fitted coats and jackets, they wore capes. Capes are circular garments that drape around the shoulders. They're typically made of heavy fabrics to fend off the cold, and because they're not fitted, they can be thrown over bulky clothing. Make your own old-fashioned woman's cape out of wool or polar fleece so that it will not fray.
Instructions

1
Cut a 60-inch square of wool or polar fleece for a cape that falls to mid-thigh.
-
2
Spread the square on the floor.
-
-
3
Fold the square in half from bottom to top, then fold it again from left to right.
-
4
Round off the upper left-hand corner of the square with a pair of scissors to create a quarter circle.
-
5
Mark a point at 4 inches above the lower right-hand corner and another at 4 inches to the left of the lower right-hand corner.
-
6
Cut a semi-circular shape between the two points you marked in Steps 6 and 7 to create the neckline for the cape.
-
7
Spread the cape out. You'll have what looks like large fabric doughnut.
-
8
Cut a straight line from the inner edge of the doughnut to the outer edge to make the front of the cape.
-
9
Close the cape with a broach pinned at the throat.
