How to Give a Flat-top Hair Cut
The iconic flat-top haircut, or crew cut, made famous by the likes of Dolph Lundgren and the U.S. military is a clean, close-cut hairstyle cut exclusively using electric clippers. The haircut comprises very short cut sides and back, with the hairs on the top of the head cut flat, parallel to the ground. This is a good hair style for hot weather or those who do a lot of exercise. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Place a clipper guide onto the clippers that corresponds to the length of hair you want to cut on the sides and back. This is often the smallest size, while some prefer not to use a guide at all and cut the hair on the sides and back to the skin.

2
Trim the hair starting from the bottom edge of the hairline working upwards toward the crown of the head. Hold the clippers at a 45-degree angle from the bottom to the top, moving upward in a straight motion. Pull the clippers away upon reaching the crown of the head. Repeat until the sides and back of the head are cut evenly.

Hold a comb in one hand, and the clippers in the other. Place the comb through the hair along the edge of the crown as a guide and trim the hair protruding through the comb with the trimmers. Start by removing small amounts of hair to sculpt the length of hair from the short sides into a slightly longer top section. Repeat around the crown of the head.

Hold a wide afro pick comb with one hand, the clippers in the other. Hold the afro pick horizontally against the top of the head and trim the excess hair protruding through it. Some prefer the top of the head to be cut close to the skin, some not, so adjust as you see fit. Some find using a blow dryer to blow the hair back, from the front, helps with this step.

5
Apply a small amount of hair gel between your hands and massage into the hair, while brushing the hair on the top of the head backward to gel it into an upward, box-like position.
