An identification card shows the name, birthday and address of the owner.

Identification cards protect and verify the information of the wearer. Schools and businesses use ID cards to keep trespassers off the premises. To create ID cards, you need an advanced graphics program that allows you to work with layers and save the file as a template.

Instructions

    • 1

Open an advanced graphics editing program, such as Adobe Photoshop, GIMP or Paint Shop Pro.

    • 2

Create a blank new document. Set the size to 3.5 by 2 inches, or about the size of a business card. Set the background to white. Once opened, click in the layers palette and select "Create New Layer" or press "CTRL" and "SHIFT" and "N."

    • 3

Click on the "Text" tool to add text boxes. Create multiple text boxes for any names, addresses, birth date and serial numbers that you want on the card. Use an easy to read font that works well for a size of 10 points or less. Use a larger font size for name and ID numbers at the top.

    • 4

Create a new layer and click on the shape tool. Create a black lined box in upper-left corner or upper-right corner. Label this box for "Picture" using the text tool.

    • 5

Add in a watermark in a new layer underneath the text and picture box.

    • 6

Press "CTRL" and "S" to save the document. Choose a format that keeps your layers without merging into one, such as .PSD or .PSP.

Tips & Warnings

  • Leave a space blank on the ID card if you plan to add a bar code.
