How to Dispose of an HDTV
High Definition (HD) television sets have become the norm in homes, offices and other establishments. Because there are channels that broadcast specifically for the enhanced visual and audio capabilities of HD, most new televisions are manufactured to meet these specifications. Because companies continuously manufacture HD televisions that are bigger and better, or because your HD set may be damaged, you may want to replace or upgrade. Regardless of the reason, there are options available to you when you need to dispose of an HD television.

1
Donate your HD TV to a friend or charity. If the set works and is still in decent shape, consider giving it to a friend in need. You may also donate it to a local charity, such as Goodwill or Salvation Army. Be sure to contact the charity prior to donating the set before dropping it off.
-
2
Sell the set to make some extra cash. Again, if the set is still in working order, place an ad in your local classifieds or an Internet auction site, such as eBay.

3
Return the HD TV to the manufacturer, if it has a recycling program. Check the website of the television's manufacturer to see if it has recycling. Companies such as Sony (sony.com) and LG (lg.com), will take the responsibility of recycling your old set, usually free of charge.
-
4
Recycle the HD TV set on your own. Many communities have recycling programs in place, so check with your municipality to see if they accept HD television sets. If not, consider locating a nearby recycler using a Web service such as "E-Cycling Central" (www.eiae.org), which provides a list of recyclers by state.
