How to Get Bold Lettering on Gmail
Gmail, Google's free email service, includes several text editing options when composing messages. For instance, you can italicize and underline lettering. If you want to add extra emphasis to a word, letter or phrase, you also have the ability to embolden a selection of your message. Use Gmail's rich text editing tools to embolden desired text in a message. The email service also allows you to embolden text while using the instant messenger service built into Gmail.

Log into Gmail and click "Compose Mail" to start a new message.

Click the "B" button above the message body field to enable bolding.

Type your desired bold text.

Click the "B" button again to disable bolding.

Tips & Warnings
In Gmail chat, embolden text by entering "*" before and after the selection.
Embolden existing text in the message body by highlight the desired selection and clicking the "B" button.
You cannot embolden text in the "Subject" or "To" fields.
